Resilience is different from endurance
Resilience is not…
- a substitute for ensuring a safe workplace.
- being cheerful all the time.
- endurance or strength.
- turning our backs on real problems.
Resilience is a characteristic of our nervous systems. The good news is that our nervous systems can change. We can become more resilient than we are today. We can feel greater ease inside, whatever is going on around us.

Whatever you were handling before… Now there’s COVID-19.
Tools to help you ride the storm
BCGEU members are on a new frontline: You’re navigating unfamiliar safety and distancing protocols. Whether you’re in corrections or long-term care, or caring for children or people who are vulnerable… it’s your job to stay calm and steady when you and people around you are on heightened alert, and we are all experiencing new fears and worries. Or perhaps you’ve been laid off and experiencing anxiety about your job and how to pay the bills.
Uncertainty and rapidly shifting news may be unsettling to our nervous systems. If it’s hard to sleep or your eating patterns are unpredictable, you are not alone. If you’re struggling to settle your own system so you can help people around you, somatic coaching with Shayna can help.

Stress lives in the body
The neck tightens, the stomach churns, the jaw clenches. Telling ourselves to ‘let it go’ or ‘just breathe’ often doesn’t calm tense muscles or stop teeth from grinding. Discomfort can make it hard to think clearly and focus. These physical, instinctive reactions need physical strategies.
Using body-centred coaching, Shayna will work with you to find simple techniques that help you settle and find ease inside so you can do what you need to do.
So·ma·tic: relating to the body, especially as distinct from the mind.
